Varanus komodoensis

Many people keep lizards and snakes as pets. Some Hopi tribes used live snakes in a dance to bring rain from the nature gods. This is done every two years around August 20. It is believed by the Hopi that snakes are the children of their ancestors and have special powers of intercession.
