Pelecypoda

by Mollie Randa

Pelecypods or bivalves consist of 30,000 species such as mussels, calms, oysters, and scallops. They have flattened bodies, inclosed in 2 shells called valves, hinged together at the dorsum of the shell by a strong ligament. They are also characterized by their small heads and by a strong foot, used for digging in the sand or dirt.
