Cephalopoda

by Mollie Randa

Cephalopods have well developed heads with a muscluar foot modified into arms or tentacles. There are about 650 species. They include cuttlefish, chambered nautilus, octopuses, and squids. Out of the cephalopods, only the chambered nautilus has kept an external shell. Cephalopods have well developed sensory, motor, and central nervous systems. They are capable of a wide range of complex behaviors, such as a siphon jet that can squirt water in rapid escape, and they can release a dark cloud of fluid to confuse enemies.
