WSHS Band Directors

Larry Einuis

Mr. Larry Einuis began his tenure as Director of Bands at West Springfield High School in the fall of 2003. Mr. Einuis’ primary instructional responsibilities include conducting the Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Percussion Class, and the Marching Spartans. Prior to joining the staff at West Springfield, Mr. Einuis was the Performing Arts Department Chair at J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church, Virginia, and has taught instrumental music in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. He was also the Brass Caption Supervisor for the Tarheel Sun Drum and Bugle Corps in 1996-97. Prior to his teaching career, Mr. Einuis spent fifteen years in various operations, engineering and technical management positions in the television broadcasting industry, and is certified as a Television Broadcast Engineer by the Society of Broadcast Engineers.

Mr. Einuis is a native of Long Island and a New York State Regents Scholar. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, where he studied with John Hill, George Krem, Randy Melton, and Myron Welch, and a Master of Science in Education, with a concentration in Wind Band Literature and Conducting, from Old Dominion University, where he studied with Dennis Zeisler and Nancy Klein.

Mr. Einuis is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association, International Association of Jazz Educators, Fairfax County Band Directors’ Association, Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Mu, Society of Broadcast Engineers, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and is the Virginia State Chair of the National Band Association. Mr. Einuis maintains an active schedule as a performer with the Fairfax Wind Symphony and the big band “Swingshift.”

Kurt Holscher

Mr. Kurt Holscher is the Associate Band Director at West Springfield High School as well as the Associate Band Director at Irving Middle School. His teaching responsibilities include Concert Band, Percussion Class, the Marching Spartans, Winter Ensembles, and Advanced Placement Music Theory.

Prior to joining the music faculty at West Springfield, Mr. Holscher served as an elementary band director in Fairfax County for four years, most recently assigned to Saratoga, Forestdale, and Clermont Elementary Schools. He graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2002 where he studied under Dr. Patrick Rooney, Ms. Jeannie Little, and Dr. Andrew Lankford. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in instrumental conducting at George Mason University. Mr. Holscher is also a 1998 alumnus of West Springfield High School.

Mr. Holscher performs regularly with the Fairfax Wind Symphony and the NOVA Manassas Symphony Orchestra. He is an active member of the Music Educator’s National Conference, Virginia Music Educator’s Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association, and the local chapter of the National Education Association.
