One of the most controversial events of the Roaring Twenties is the World Series of 1919. The Chicago White Sox, who were then considered the best team in the league, lost in eight games to the Cincinnati Reds. Next year, seven of their members were convicted of taking bribes to fix the World Series and eight players from the Chicago White Sox were banned from baseball for life. Eddie Cicotte, Happy Felsch, Chick Gandil, Joe Jackson, Fred McMullin, Swede Risberg, and Lefty Williams were banned for actually taking the bribes and participating in fixing the World Series. Buck Weaver was banned for knowing about the bribe but not doing anything about it. After the 1919 World Series, the name "Black Sox" sticks with the team.
