In The Great Gatsby Gatsby and Nick cross paths with a wealthy black man while driving through New York. This is a small glimpse into the changing roles of Blacks during the Twenties. The Harlem Renaissance was a time of cultural awakening in America. A part of New York, Harlem symbolized the centralization of African Americans in the country during the Twentieth Century. Not only did the Harlem Renaissance represent the emergence of the African American in the Twenties, it was also a product of the African American Experience.
