Nick's girlfriend, Jordan Baker, is an accomplished golfer. She won the club championship and likes to let people know about it. Many of her defeated competitors believe that she cheated in the semifinal match in order to win.
The two premier American
golfers during the 1920s were Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones. Together they combined
for seventeen major victories, thirteen coming from Bobby Jones.
Bobby Jones, the legendary
amateur golfer of the 1920s, was not only a golfer but also a designer. He designed
over 50 courses all over the country. He passed his love for course architecture
to his son, Robert Trent Jones. The younger Jones has designed courses many
courses including Congressional, used for the 1997 U.S. Open, and the Robert
Trent Jones Golf Club in Florida.
Walter Hagen was the first
dominant professional.
