The Business and Community Advisory Council (BCAC) this Council exemplifies the long-standing Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) tradition of community engagement and participation in that engagement by leaders at the highest levels in FCPS and the community. Its essential purposes are to facilitate informed communication between the broader community and FCPS leadership and to provide a forum for a broad spectrum of the community to discuss and reach consensus about current and long-range FCPS programs and the educational and public policy issues related to them. Prior to 2007, BCACs scope was addressed by the former Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council (SCAC) and Superintendent's Business-Industry Advisory Council (BIAC).
The superintendent’s role and that of participating staff and other guest speakers is to inform the council’s members on topics important to FCPS. The Council's role is to advise and counsel the Superintendent, and the School Board through the Superintendent, on matters of significance to the FCPS. Members of the Superintendent’s Business and Community Advisory Council (BCAC) periodically take a field to a site of interest.
In April 2013, members conducted their monthly meeting at a house built by students participating in Fairfax County Public Schools self sustaining Residential Construction program. In partnership with the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, students provided BCAC members tours of the house which is expected to sell in the mid 800’s.
In 2012, the members visited Finance Park.
