VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE
(www.vhsl.org)
The VHSL is a nonprofit voluntary organization composed of the 290 public high schools in Virginia. The VHSL is a service organization whose purpose is to build better citizens through interscholastic activities such as athletics, drama, debate, forensics, cheerleading, creative writing, and publications for students throughout Virginia. NATIONAL FEDERATION OF STATE HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATIONS
(www.nfhs.org)
The mission of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is to serve its members and its related professional groups by providing leadership and national coordination for the administration of interscholastic activities that will enhance the educational experiences of high school students and reduce risks of their participation. The NFHS will promote participation and sportsmanship to develop good citizens through interscholastic activities that provide equitable opportunities, positive recognition, and learning experiences to students while maximizing the achievement of educational goals.

NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
(www.ncaa.org)
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a voluntary association of about 1,200 colleges and universities, athletic conferences, and sports organizations devoted to the sound administration of intercollegiate athletics.

Through the NCAA, member schools and conferences consider any athletics problem that has become national in character. Volunteer representatives from these schools and conferences establish rules that govern the association and programs designed to further its purposes and goals.

If you intend to participate in Division I or II athletics as a freshman in college, you must be registered with and be certified as eligible by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. Refer to the Academic Eligibility Section to determine the initial-eligibility standards that apply to you. Please note that initial-eligibility certification pertains only to whether you meet the NCAA requirements for participation as a freshman in Division I or II athletics and has no bearing on your admission to a particular Division I or II institution.
