WELCOME BACK VHSL CERTIFIED MEASURER's

The VHSL WCP Excel Worksheet will no longer be used.
The VHSL WCP measuring procedures remain unchanged, but the data must be entered into the National Wrestling Coaches Association's Online Optimal Calculator to generate a Coach Official Team Report.
Please review the procedures carefully, as there have been several changes to the process from previous years.

This year (11-12), the tutorial is a mandatory update for exisitng certified measurers. Existing certified measurers may also attend a workshop to complete the mandatory update. Schedule of workshop dates for 2011. Participation at a workshop will also provide you with the opportunity to refine your skills as a tester, and ask any questions that may have come up during the last wrestling season. It is the combined effort of all involved, including the athletes, coaches, parents, administrators, physicians, VHSL staff, Certified Measurers and Regional Master Testers that allows the VHSL wrestling program to be one of the safest in the country.

The VHSL appreciates your dedication to the VHSL Weight Control Program and invites you to continue in your role as a Certified Measurer.
The "Testing Procedures" for measuring the skinfolds remain the same as in previous years. Males are tested on three sites (Tricep, Subscapular and Abdomen) three times and all 9 measurements will be uploaded into the computer. One significant difference this year is that USG MUST BE BETWEEN 1.001 and 1.025 for the test to continue. A Usg of 1.026 and greater will require the athlete to return no sooner than one day later for the assessment to take place.

Weight classes have changed, new classes are as follows: 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, 285

When collecting measurements, the new online OPC will request you input the wrestlers grade (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th)

Procedures for testing:

1. Communicate with coaches and determine a method of communicating with athletes for briefing, scheduling of tests, and alternatives for retesting procedures. PLEASE attempt to set up a schedule (date and time) for the testing to be completed. Discuss how the testing procedures will take place, stations, assistance, etc. Remember that testing must be completed before practice while the athlete is at a resting heart rate.

2. Print off and provide hydration handouts for each athlete.

3. Provide information to athletes on tips to achieve normal hydration status for Usg assessment. Provide athlete's the handout with recommendations, including general nutrition and weight loss information

4. Print off Worksheet for data entry (worksheet is available via web download after completion of tutorial)

5. Assess hydration level using urine specific gravity (Usg) via refractometer or Multistix (dipstix) Reagent Strips Usg must be (NEW) 1.025 or less for testing to continue. NO further testing of body weight, or skinfold measurements should be taken if the athlete's Usg is 1.026 or above.

REMEMBER:  Do not continue with testing process if the athlete's Usg is 1.026 and above. They should return not less than one day later in a more hydrated state.

6. NO MORE FREE HYDRATION RETEST!!
