Official’s WCP Manual Update

New Items for 2007-08

  • Transfer students (out-of-state) will qualify for all growth pounds as long as they qualify for the weight class using the VHSL WCP.
  • In a two day event, when a participating team is competing the day immediately prior to the tournament, a maximum allowable weight allowance will be two pounds for all athletes participating in the tournament using the following formula:
    • Scratch weight on all matches held the day prior to the two day event
    • Scratch weight + one pound on day one of the tournament
    • Scratch weight + two pounds on day two of tournament
  • When a two day event is scheduled and no team competes the day prior to the tournament, the maximum allowable weight allowance will be one pound for all athletes participating in the tournament using the following formula:
    • Scratch weight on all matches on day one of the tournament
    • Scratch weight + one pound on day two of the tournament
  • Satellite weigh-ins would be allowed in 2-day regular season tournaments for schools requesting the weigh-in due to educational reasons. This request must be made at least one month in advance of the event to the League office with a copy to the Tournament Director. The time schedule for the weigh-in would be travel time plus one hour.

Refresher Information

  • The growth allowance cannot be used to allow a wrestler to reach a lower weight class than permitted without a growth allowance. The lowest weight class allowed will be indicated on the Coach-Official Team Report. No change to that weight class is permitted.
  • The weight class the athlete would be permitted to compete in for that week is on the coaches report form. The exact date would be determined by calculating the number of weeks from the DATE OF TEST. The athlete’s exact weight should be consistent with a progression for weight loss based on the recommended number of pounds per week loss.
  • There is a “buffer zone” that allows a wrestler a range from 0.5 to 0.9 pounds of weight loss beyond the amount of allowable weight loss for a specific match.
  • There is a new skin lesion form for the 07-08 season.
  • Skin lesions should be covered during the match.
