Chemical or Herbal Supplements
Dietary supplements or products that profess to increase performance are not recommended. If you have questions or concerns about weight loss or weight gain, consult your physician. You should also consult the local school certified athletic trainer for more information.
Energy Products
Energy products intended for consumption as ergogenic (performance-enhancing) aids, that chemically impact cardiac output have been placed on the prohibited use list by the FCPS Office of Risk Management. It is prohibited to possess and/or consume these products during school hours and school activities. The health risks associated with use of these products include, but are not limited to, increased risk of heart irregularities including arrhythmias, disturbances of the central nervous system, gastrointestinal problems, and stroke. Many manufacturers state their products are not recommended for children. Consult the school athletic trainer for more information.
Nutrition
Good nutrition is vital to a developing mind and body. Parents should contact the local school certified athletic trainer for information related to good nutrition. Any significant weight loss or weight gain should be reported to the school athletic trainer.
Sleep
Athletes are putting extra demands on their bodies and need adequate time to recover from a demanding schedule of school and sports training. A good night’s sleep is essential for an athlete to succeed. Managing time is essential for success, in the classroom and in the sports world.
Steroids
The use of anabolic steroids without the written permission of a physician is illegal and extremely dangerous. Use of steroids will have serious consequences. For more information on steroids, contact your school’s ATC.

Time Management
The ability to manage time is a fundamental building block for success, regardless of the endeavor. Students are expected to manage their time well by knowing seasonal expectations and developing good work habits. Athletics is a complement to the academic day, and, the good use of time will go a long way to having a successful experience. Students will need to maximize the use of their time and balance the needs of living a healthful lifestyle, practicing good study habits and following through on their sport commitments. Grades are monitored by the school at midterm and at the end of each marking period. Parents may request an academic or athletic progress report at any time.
