Important deadlines:

  • Transfer season ends for initial (new student) requests on June 1, 2008.
  • Transfer season ends to submit a request for renewals (returning students) (April 1) and high school curricular students (April 15).
  • The High School Curricular Application season has been extended to May 2, 2008.
  • Requests for initial transfers available March 1-June 1, 2008.
  • Transfer renewals for returning students begins February 15 and ends April 1, 2008

A parent or guardian of a student enrolled in FCPS may request a student transfer for his or her school-aged child (K-12) from their base school for the next school year during transfer season.

Important Notes:

  • All transfers are considered on a space available basis. The Notification of Schools Closed for Transfers list for 2007-2008 is available. These schools may be at capacity for the 2008-2009 school year; the updated list will be posted by June 1, 2008.
  • If approved, a transfer is granted for only one year.
  • FCPS does not provide transportation except for students affected by School Board approved boundary phase-ins.
  • A transfer may be terminated if the conditions of the transfer are not maintained by the student.
  • If a student is seeking High School Curricular transfer, he or she may not be eligible to participate in secondary school interscholastic athletics for one year.

FCPS approves a transfer request for very specific reasons as outlined in Regulation 2230. They are:

1. Family relocation *
2. Child care hardship (elementary only) *
3. Medical, emotional, social, or family adjustment hardship *
4. FCPS parent employee working 20+ hours/week
5. High School Curricular program

* Regulation 2230 requires that applicants must provide specific documentation to support the transfer request.
