Child Find: Overview

Preschool Child find is part of Fairfax County Public Schools Department of Special Services. It serves as a resource for Fairfax County preschool children and their families, providing services that help identify potential special education needs and educating the community about child development and the importance of early intervention. Preschool Child Find provides free developmental screenings to children ages 20 months to 5 years old who are Fairfax County or Fairfax city residents. Note: Child must turn 2 by no later than September 30th. Child Find staff serves as liaisons to local community preschool, day care, Head Start and Family and Early Childhood Education Programs (FECEP) staffs and provide assistance and information. Child Find staff also performs community outreach to increase public awareness of the importance of early intervention, and to ensure that all members of the Fairfax County community are able to access Preschool Child find services, if needed.
