ClarisWorks “Do-It-Yourself” Newsletter

 

• Open a new Word Processing Document in ClarisWorks.

• Make a new section for the heading:

- Go to Format -> Section.
- In the Start Section choose New Line from the popdown menu and click OK.
- Press the Return key about 8 times to make room for a header.
- Go to Format -> Insert Section Break which makes a header.
- Click on the 2-column icon to make columns in the rest of the document.

• Make a border for the heading:

- Click on the tool icon at the bottom of the page by “Page l.”
- Click on the rounded rectangle tool.
- At the bottom of the tool bar, click on the black line icon and choose a 3 pt. line thickness.
- Draw a rectangle for the heading.

• Add a graphic to the heading:

- Go to File -> Library and choose a category.
- Click on View -> by Object to see all the pictures.
- When you have chosen your graphic, click and drag onto the newsletter and position it.
- Close the Library window.

• Add text in the heading:

- Select the A tool.
- Hold down the Option key and click and drag to create a box.
- Type in your heading.
- Highlight your text and choose a font, size and alignment.
- Make a second text box for “Produced by” text.

• Add text to the Newsletter:

- Click once in the left column.
- Go to File -> Open and navigate to a completed article.
- Go to Edit -> Select All.
- Go to Edit -> Copy.
- Close the text window by clicking on the close box in the left hand corner.
- Go back to your newsletter document and go to Edit -> Paste. The text will flow into the column.
- Repeat for each article.

• Add graphics to the Newsletter:

- Select the Arrow tool in the tool bar.
- Go to File- > Library and choose an appropriate graphic.

or:

- Go to File -> Insert and navigate to a graphic you have copied from the Internet or scanned from a book.
- Click on the graphic object and go to Options -> Text Wrap and click on Regular.
- Drag to position the object and resize it, as needed.

• Add a framed text box:

- Select the A tool.
- Hold down the Option key and click and drag to create a box.
- Type in your text.
- Change the font, alignment (center) and size as desired.
- Choose the rectangle tool and draw a box around the text. Your text will disappear.
- At the bottom of the tool bar, click on the black line icon and choose a thickness.
- Go to Arrange -> Move to Back and your text will reappear.
