Draft:Builder Teacher-created Templates

 


These files have all been compressed and you will need the latest FREE StuffIt Expander. You will also need to have the full Draft:Builder program. Once the files are downloaded and de-compressed, they can be used on either Macintosh or Windows PC computers. After downloading Draft:Builder Templates, it is necessary that you place downloaded files into the appropriate Draft:Builder folder.

Windows: My Computer/Appropriate Drive/ Don Johnston/Draft:Builder/Templates

Macintosh: Hard Drive/Don Johnston/Draft:Builder/Templates

Open the "Draft:Builder" folder located within the Don Johnston folder. Drag downloaded templates into the "Template" folder.

Many of these templates correspond with books from the Start-to-Finish series (STF) from Don Johnston, Inc.

 

Biographies

Against All Odds: George Washington and the Fight for American Independence (Start-to-Finish Book) by Rachel Perella, ITS

Intermediate: This template uses the story of George Washington's life to help students understand the qualities of a true hero. Students are asked to list the qualities of a hero and to identify specific examples of how George Washington was a hero. Use the template to have students write an expository paper on what a hero is OR for a report on the facts about George Washington's life.

Ali: The Greatest (Start-to-Finish Book)

Writing is based on a five-paragraph essay format. Student will write a character analysis on Tom Sawyer

 

Call of the Wild (Start-to-Finish Book) by Rachel Connelly, ITS

  • Book Review - The writing is based on a five-paragraph essay format. Student will answer the 5 W's: who, what, where, when, why. Each question will be answered in paragraph form. Questions and prompts provided throughout writing process.
  • Character Analysis - This writing is based on a five-paragraph essay format. Student will write a character analysis for Buck from the book The Call of the Wild.

Kidnapped (Start-to-Finish Book) by Rachel Connelly, ITS

  • Character Analysis - Based on the five-paragraph essay format. Write a character analysis for David Balfour from Kidnapped.
  • Compare/Contrast - Student will compare and contrast the two main characters. Questions provided to lead student through the writing process.
  • Theme - Writing is a 5 paragraph essay based on a theme for the book Kidnapped. Student will write about the friendship between the two main characters.

Lord Jim (Start-to-Finish Book) by Rachel Connelly, ITS

Persuade the reader to believe whether Lord Jim was a hero or a coward. Extensive scaffolding provided to guide student through writing process.

Mutiny on the Bounty (Start-to-Finish Book) by Rachel Connelly, ITS

  • Compare and contrast writing for Mutiny. Student will compare and contrast leadership styles of the 2 main characters.
  • Persuasive essay for Mutiny. Student will persuade reader to believe whether Capt. Bligh was a leader or tyrant.

Greek Myths II: Heroes, Lovers and Mortal Man (Start-to-Finish Book) by Rachel Perella, ITS

Basic: These two templates were created to help students identify key points to writing a summary of Chapters 1 and/or 2 of the Greek Myths II Start-to-Finish book. It provides prompts for factual recall for each chapter.

Macbeth (Start-to-Finish Book) by Rachel Perella, ITS

Basic or Intermediate: The student uses this template to answer questions relating to each chapter of the book. It begins with comprehension questions relating to Shakespeare from the book jacket. After the student has answered all of the chapter questions, the template may be used for a report or summary on the story of Macbeth.
