Letter from Dr. Farling

A Message from Dr. Alice Farling
Assistant Superintendent
Department of Special Services

Fairfax County is committed to creating school communities that provide special help to all students, when and if they need it, and to integrated classrooms where students have opportunities to learn together despite diverse learning needs. Fairfax County is further committed to schools and classrooms where diversity is highly regarded; places where children have friendships with other members of their classes regardless of differences in backgrounds, learning styles, talents, and gifts.

The Office of Special Education provides leadership and support to the school community through quality special education services so that all students achieve high academic standards. While maintaining a continuum of services as required by law, our focus continues to be on the question, "What supports do we need to successfully educate this student in the neighborhood school?"

I hope you will use the information on this website and the resources at the Parent Resource Center to be an active, collaborative partner in this challenging process.
