TRAININGS:
Conflict resolution and mediation training is offered throughout the school year. Conflict resolution training includes an awareness of conflict and conflict styles, communication and problem-solving skills, anger management, bias awareness, prejudice reduction, and conflict resolution skills. Mediation training teaches these same components while training participants in the 3rd party facilitation process.

FCPS offers Supreme Court of Virginia certified general (20-hour) and advanced (12-hour) mediation training for school system staff. Since 1993, over 1000 school system personnel and community volunteers have received training in conflict resolution. An additional 1000 school personnel have received training in mediation. In addition to the self-development aspects of these trainings, school system staff members are encouraged to use their skills in their offices or school sites when appropriate. Furthermore, school-based staff train students in mediation and help run school peer mediation and conflict resolution programs. Training for program implementation is offered in the fall along with yearly meetings for program coordinators. In addition to these training opportunities, SDFY also offers Group Mediation Training (16-hours), and Restorative Justice which are approved for mediation re-certification training, customized training by request, and ongoing mentoring and apprenticeship opportunities.. For a complete list of upcoming training dates, please refer to Events/Trainings.
