School
Board Resolution
Fairfax County Public Schools encourages parents, students, teachers, and community
members to recognize the value of young people to our community-both
now and in the future-and to recognize that each individual's character
is an extremely important part of that future. Students have a right
to learn about America's moral heritage. Character is a moral and ethical
quality needed to sustain the individual citizen and a democratic society.
Schools should teach and model universal character qualities through
an intentional, proactive, and comprehensive approach that transcends
cultural, religious, political, and socioeconomic differences. Our
students need to learn those habits of mind, heart, and spirit that
help them know, desire, and do what is right. Historically, building
character has been a primary mission of education. Therefore, the Fairfax
County School Board-on behalf of its students and staff members-proclaims its strong support and endorsement of character development through Fairfax County
Public Schools.
