Library Mission

The library’s mission is to provide services, resources and instruction to support and enrich the educational program at South County Secondary School; to help students develop the skills they need to become effective and ethical users of information; and to encourage reading for life-long learning.
Students are encouraged to use the collection for school related research, independent study, and reading for personal enjoyment.


Library Policies

During and After School Use:

  • Students must have a pass from a classroom teacher or lunch period administrator to use the library during school hours.
  • Students who sign into the library before 2:30 will not need passes. After 2:30 students must have a pass from a teacher in order to enter the library.
  • Students are required to sign in and sign out at the front desk when using the library during and after school hours.
 

Borrowing Privileges:

  • Each student must know his/her personal ID number in order to check out library materials or to use a library computer.
  • Students may check out up to three books for three weeks. Books may be renewed.
  • Reference books and magazines may be checked out for overnight use only. The items are due back before classes begin the following day.
  • Fines for overdue books are .10 cents/school day for each overdue item. Fines for reference materials are $1.00/school day
  • Students may not check out materials if they have any overdue materials or owe fines.
  • Full replacement price is charged for lost or damaged items.
 

Computer and Printer Use:

  • Use of the Internet on library computers is for educational use only. Any student not in compliance with the FCPS/SCSS Internet Acceptable Use Policy will lose computer privileges.
  • All photocopies and black and white computer print-outs are 15 cents per page. Color computer print-outs are 50 cents per page.
 

Rules:

  • Students are expected to work on school work or read quietly while in the library.
  • Do not disturb or interrupt classes that are receiving instruction.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the library.
  • All FCPS and South County school rules are to be followed in the library at all times.
