ESOL
Mission Statement
The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Department at South County High School serves students who are learning English as their second, third or even fourth language. The goals of the ESOL program include promoting students’ English proficiency while advancing communicative skills and academic achievement in all content areas.
The ESOL Department broadens the understanding and appreciation at SCSS for diverse populations. The Department supports tolerance by valuing the varied academic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds of students. To achieve these goals, the ESOL program provides content instruction using Virginia and Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) standards along with a wide range of literature and experience-based approaches to learning.
