Office of Internal Audit
Mission
Our mission is to independently determine whether the ongoing processes for controlling fiscal and administrative operations throughout Fairfax County Public Schools are adequately designed, functioning in an effective manner, and fully accountable to its citizens. The Office of Internal Audit provides operational, financial, and compliance audit services to the School Board and management.
Internal Audit helps to improve school division performance and accountability by:
- Assessing the reliability of financial and operating information
- Evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of departments
- Testing the adequacy of controls for preventing waste and safeguarding assets
- Verifying compliance with policies, regulations, and procedures
- Advising and providing employees with methods for increasing internal control knowledge, awareness, and assessment capabilities
