The school system has established high and clear achievement standards and accountability measures for all FCPS students. The basic instructional program for FCPS is defined in the Program of Studies (link to http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/pos/), which defines objectives for all subjects. Strong emphasis is placed on writing, computation, and research skills.

FCPS provides general music education for all students Kindergarten through sixth grade, orchestra instruction beginning in fourth grade, and band and chorus instruction beginning in fifth grade in every elementary school.

Technology is used in all aspects of teaching and learning. The web-based FCPS 24-7 Learning program allows students, parents, and teachers to access homework and classroom assignments, to view class calendars, and to explore links to enrichment activities.
Bus transportation (link to http://www.fcps.edu/fts/tran/index.htm) is provided for elementary students who live more than 1 mile from school.
