Peer Mediators
School Mediation programs are in place in most elementary schools in Fairfax County. The Peer Mediation Program at Colin Powell is comprised of 5th and 6th grade students who have been selected by their classmates and teachers to help other students solve conflicts in a peaceful and fair manner. |
Mentoring
Last year we kicked off our teacher mentoring program. This program matched up approximately 30 students with a Colin Powell staff member. Mentors meet with students at school at least twice a month during school hours. During this time, mentors build relationships with their students by listening, motivating, encouraging and setting goals. We will be continuing this program this year.

Proud Puma Character Education
This year our character education program will tie in with our school-wide behavior program on respect. All adults in the building have "proud puma" slips which can be handed out anytime they see a child following the rules and showing respect. At the end of each week, two students from each grade level will be recognized on the morning announcements. A "Proud Puma" bulletin board graph will be displayed in the cafeteria.
