Mr. Brian Hull, Principal

Brian Hull has worked in the Fairfax County Public Schools system for nearly 30 years. During this time, he has served as a classroom teacher and an administrator in several schools. He was first appointed Principal at Brookfield Elementary School (Chantilly) in 1990. Four years later, he moved to Willow Springs Elementary School (Fairfax), where he served as Principal until 1999. Prior to being appointed as the Principal of Colin Powell Elementary School, he served in that role at Franklin Sherman Elementary School (McLean). Each of these wonderful experiences helped him prepare for the excitement and challenge of successfully opening this new school in the fall of 2003. This achievement has been the fulfillment of a long-time career goal of his. Today, he credits the partnership with the tremendous talents of a dedicated faculty and staff and the support of an outstanding community for the creation of a dynamic learning community that sets its sights on excellence. Mr. Hull is a graduate of Westfield State College (Massachusetts) where he obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Education in 1977. In 1980, he earned a Masters of Arts degree in Education from George Washington University (Washington, DC). Since then, he has actively participated in coursework and workshops which have kept him abreast of local and national policy and trends in the field of education. In November of 2007, Mr. Hull was named the Fairfax County Principal of the Year and was awarded the Washington Post Distinguished Educator Award.

Mr. Adam Erbrecht, Assistant Principal

Adam Erbrecht is excited to enter the next phase of his career as Assistant Principal.  To have the opportunity to serve in a school community like Colin Powell in this position is a dream come true.  A Pennsylvania native, he attended Grove City College north of Pittsburgh, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and in 2000 began teaching third grade in the Atlanta area.  Upon moving to Fairfax County three years later with his wife Julianne, he taught third grade for one year at Fairview Elementary and then came to CPES to teach fifth grade for the next four years.  During that time, he completed his Master’s Degree in School Administration at UVA in 2006. He feels honored to continue to be a part of this community of learners and looks forward to growing alongside staff, students, and parents.  Mr. E loves Steelers football, making his new son laugh, cooking, singing, playing piano, and anything outdoors.
