Aha, Process, Inc.-Devoted to educating professionals and community leaders about the effects of class and poverty on our society, aha! Process, Inc. was founded as RFT Publishing Co. in 1994 by Dr. Ruby K. Payne. The company began with an emphasis on education and the difficulty children from poverty experience in most schools. The company spreads the message that in all types of social interaction, poverty creates obstacles that require specific tactics to overcome. Experts from aha! CaseNEX -Another important partner of LEAD has been CaseNEX, an education company at the University of Virginia. Through collaboration with LEAD, selected cases with in-depth study and discussion have been added to reinforce the intern job-embedded curriculum. This case study approach helps interns understand and address the complexity leading learning. Analyses of real-life scenarios focus on issues such as the demands of multicultural learning environments, standards of learning and assessment, and using technology to improve instruction. In an interactive online environment, interns develop problem-solving skills and practice a five-step methodology that emphasizes instructional leadership. With this partnership, as with others, the LEAD team has developed the capacity to manage the online interactions around the cases as well as lead the face-to-face discussions with administrative interns. This relationship also serves to enrich our network with university and statewide leaders.

HOPE Foundation -For almost two decades, the HOPE Foundation has led the way in tapping the passion, collective wisdom, and leadership within learning communities to create schools where failure is not an option. The results of our work throughout North America, parts of Africa, and England have been used to re-shape school cultures so that low-performing students succeed in school. Hope does this by helping individuals within the school, district, and region work as a team, one that is collectively focused on learning and success for all students.
University Partnerships-LEAD continues to partner with local universities (University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Richmond) in identifying potential education leadership candidates. The interns’ participation in the LEAD experience, concurrent with academic classes creates a rich context for cross pollination. LEAD continues to provide support to universities in the selection and orientation of participants. In addition, we have extended our partnership with the University of Virginia to include participation with the Virginia Statewide Education Advisory Council (VSEAC).
