WHAT IS LEAD FAIRFAX?
The Learning, Empowering, Assessing, and Developing (LEAD) Fairfax program in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) promotes systemic reform of leadership to significantly improve learning for all students.
Key components in this process are attracting, developing, and supporting leaders who (a) have the ability to influence the action of others; (b) are knowledgeable about research-based practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment; and (c) are capable of managing people and resources effectively.
The Wallace Foundation which supports the development of effective ideas and practices that enable institutions to expand learning and enrichment opportunities for all people provides funds to LEAD Fairfax. The findings and recommendations of individual reports are solely those of their authors.

WHY LEAD FAIRFAX?
The current 93 LEAD schools have a combined student population of more than 70,000, which if taken separately, would make this aggregate the third largest school system in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Enrolled in these 82 LEAD schools are 23,000 of the 32,000 free and reduced lunch students of FCPS. The number of schools, instructional leaders and students involved with our program components underscores the need to take our efforts to scale in the most effective, thoughtful, and efficient manner possible.
