About the Program
The Great Beginnings: Beginning Teacher Induction Program provides strong support during the critical first year of teaching. The Great Beginnings Program provides essential information and support to teachers preparing them for the first days of school and transitioning them to the Professional Learning Community of Fairfax County teachers. Teachers in the program also form collegial relationships with other beginning teachers while learning from one another.

The Program Format
The Great Beginnings: Beginning Teacher Induction Program consists of two parts which include the Summer Institute and After School Teaching Seminars.

The Summer Institute (Standard School Calendar)

After-School Teaching Seminar

Elementary and Secondary Schools

Dates: Throughout the school year - see syllabus on left

Special Note: Beginning teachers hired after the Summer Institute dates enroll in the induction program by attending the After-School Teaching Seminar.

Teachers who complete the After School Teaching Seminar induction program receive Fairfax County Public Schools' Academy credit and may qualify for recertification points that can be used for licensure renewal and salary scale increase.

Who Enrolls in Great Beginnings:
Beginning Teacher Induction Program ?

All applicants for the program must meet two criteria:

Have been offered a teaching contract with Fairfax County Public Schools
Have no prior full-time teaching experience or 1 year teaching experience outside FCPS
