Audience

This program is intended for newly appointed principals. All newly hired principals participate in this coaching and induction program.

Beginning the Journey Together

A principal’s journey into their first year is a challenge. It can be a lonely road at times – unexpected curves, roadblocks, and potholes.  Just as all travelers benefit from a guide, someone to provide experienced, specialized advice and direction, so do all new principals benefit from the guidance of an experienced colleague, someone to walk alongside them as they begin their journey.

The Principal-In-Residence tailors the coaching sessions to meet the individual needs of each new school leader by helping with the implementation of school goals and plans. The Principal-In-Residence is readily accessible to the new principals via one-on-one coaching sessions, email and phone. Regular visits are scheduled with each leader at their school site and the agenda is driven by the new principal. Cohort group meetings are held on a monthly basis to facilitate professional development and peer-to-peer learning.

From its inception in 2007, the goal of this program has been to develop and provide an effective model to coach first year principals.  The job-embedded professional development provided by this program directly impacts the success of the first year principal’s school improvement efforts.
