Beginning Teacher Induction Program

Administrators

Administrators play a key role in inducting and retaining beginning teachers in their schools and in the teaching profession.  Studies consistently show that more teachers who are enrolled in the Great Beginnings Induction Program remain teaching in Fairfax than their peers who do not enroll in Great Beginnings.

What YOU Can Do

  • Promote enrollment in the Great Beginnings:  Beginning Teacher Induction Programs for all of your new teachers.
  • Select excellent mentors, provide a common planning time for mentors and mentees, and monitor the Great Beginnings Mentor Program at the school site.
  • Provide professional learning communities, teaching assignments, and professional development necessary for new teachers to succeed.

  • Successful classroom teaching,
  • Someone who is viewed as a leader by the staff and respected by the school community.
  • Personal traits such as friendliness, empathy, flexibility and a positive, cooperative attitude.
  • Substantial knowledge of content and curriculum requirements.
  • Someone who supports Professional Learning Communities and a true culture of collaboration.
  • Willingness to serve in this capacity for at least a two-year period.
