About the Program
The Great Beginnings: Beginning Teacher Induction Program is highly rated by beginning teachers, mentors, and principals as a program offering strong support during the critical first year of teaching. Teachers in the program form collegial relationships with other beginning teachers while learning from one another.
The Program Format
The Great Beginnings: Beginning Teacher Induction Program consists of two parts:
The Summer Institute (2008 schedule)
- July 15-16 for elementary teachers in modified calendar schools
- August 6 for secondary teachers in modified calendar schools
- August 18, 19, 20 for teachers in standard calendar schools
An After-School Teaching Seminar with sessions scheduled monthly throughout the school year.
Teachers must participate in both parts of the program.
Special Note: Beginning teachers hired after the Summer Institute dates can still enroll in the induction program on a space available basis by attending the After-School Teaching Seminar.
Teachers who complete the induction program receive Fairfax County Public Schools' Academy credit and may qualify for recertification points that can be used for licensure renewal and salary scale increase.
