Taking the Test

    The admissions test begins with a two-hour standardized test. The standardized test includes 45 verbal questions (5 scrambled paragraph exercises, 15 logical reasoning questions, and 5 reading passages with 5 questions each) and 50 multiple-choice math word and computational problems.

    Total testing time, including time for instructions and questions, is approximately 2.5 hours.

    All applicants to the freshman class of 2020 that submit a completed application by the October 16, 2015 deadline are automatically registered to take the Thomas Jefferson Admissions Test. This is the only way to register for the admissions test and all applicants to the freshman class of 2020 must take the admissions test. This year's test will be administered on Saturday, December 5, 2015, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 11:00 a.m.

    Selecting Your Test Site

    The test is offered at 17 locations throughout Northern Virginia (12 in Fairfax County, three in Loudoun County, one in Arlington County, and one in Prince William County). Applicants must select a test site location within the school division in which they reside (City of Falls Church applicants may test at any site because there is no test site located in the City of Falls Church).

    In case of inclement weather and the closure of school buildings on December 5, 2015, the test will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the same time and same locations. Click here for alternate dates for religious or other reasons.

    Confirming Your Test Site

  • If you applied using the online application

    You will receive a testing newsletter through the online system confirming your testing site during the week of November 16, 2015.

  • If you applied using the paper application

    The Admissions Office will mail a newsletter to applicants that will provide a testing I.D. number and confirm your testing site during the week of November 16, 2015.

If you do not receive your confirmation by Monday, November 30, 2015, please call the Admissions Office at 571-423-3770. If you requested testing accommodations or an alternate test date for religious reasons, you will be contacted by December 1 regarding your requests. (NOTE: If you are a paper applicant and did not select a test site, you will be assigned to the test site closest to your home address.)

Paper Applicants

Due to the number of applicants, we cannot provide confirmation of your test site location over the phone before November 30. We will not provide this information through email.
