County Public Schools > Madison Pyramid Pilot
A community town meeting was held Monday, May 19, 2003, at 7 p.m. in the
Madison High School auditorium to discuss the proposed new pilot bell schedule
in the Madison pyramid. The purpose of this meeting was to provide information,
answer questions, and gauge community support
before seeking approval and resources from the School Board.
This pilot project would not begin before Fall of 2004.
This proposal will explore the possibility of a change in opening
and closing times for schools. Schools that may be affected by this proposal
include: Madison, Thoreau, Cunningham Park, Flint Hill, Louise Archer,
Marshall
Road, Vienna, Wolftrap, and Oakton Elementary. The later opening and closing
times will impact not only the staff, students, and parents of Madison
High School,
but may also affect a number of other schools in the Madison Pyramid and
Oakton Elementary School.
Fairfax County Public Schools Office of
Facilities and Transportation Services has determined some parameters for the study including the following:
- All opening bell schedules must be between 7:20 and 9:15 a.m.
- No elementary students are to wait for buses or walk to school in the
dark
- Madison High School bell schedule would be between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m.
- Madison-based Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology
students must be transported to that school.
