At its October 25, 2012, regular business meeting, the School Board affirmed its interest in the Fairfax Leadership Academy (FLA) concept and in targeted efforts to address the educational needs of at-risk students. The Board deferred further consideration of the FLA charter school application until such time as FLA submits a revised application to the Board to substantially address concerns identified by the FCPS Charter School Review Committee and School Board members. The Board also voted to eliminate the former Graham Road Elementary School property as a possible site for the proposed FLA charter school.
The Fairfax County School Board held a public hearing on the Fairfax Leadership Academy application on Tuesday, October 9 at 6 p.m. at Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church, VA.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to informing the community about proposed public charter school applications and the process for review and action.
The Fairfax Leadership Academy (FLA) has submitted an application (PDF) to FCPS requesting approval by the Fairfax County School Board. Details on the Fairfax Leadership Academy are available.
The following amendments to FLA’s application, submitted since it was originally filed May 30, 2012, were made by the applicant in response to questions posed by FCPS’ Charter School Review Committee, or as a result of the continuing dialogue between FLA and FCPS.
A public meeting was held on June 12 to provide information about Fairfax Leadership Academy and the application process. Presentations from the meeting are available.
FCPS will receive public comment on the charter school application at a public hearing in October.
