No Child Left Behind
School Transfer Option Information
Preliminary 2006-07 Standards of Learning test results have been received. A small number of Fairfax County Title I schools—including Mt. Vernon Woods Elementary School—did not meet the standards for Adequate Yearly Progress under the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law. The entire school staff is committed to renewing our work this fall to be sure that all of our students make strong academic progress.
Under the federal NCLB law, the school division must offer parents the option to transfer their children to one of two other FCPS schools, designated as “receiving schools.” For Mt. Vernon Woods Elementary School, these schools are Island Creek and Hayfield Elementary. These receiving schools were chosen based on transportation time and distance from our school and space availability.
All Mt. Vernon Woods Elementary families have been notified of this transfer option and were offered the opportunity to complete a transfer application. Parents will be notified of the transfer option available to their students by August 23, 2007.
This site offers details about the school transfer option program for Mt. Vernon Woods Elementary School families.
