Communications Corner: Contact Parents Regularly With Good News

Share Good News With ParentsOften, the only time some parents hear from their child's teacher is when their child is in trouble. To help build a positive relationship and improve parental involvement, teachers should strive to contact all parents at least two times per year with good news about their child. This could be done by phone, e-mail, letters, hand-written notes, or person-to-person contact. Make a special effort to communicate positive news to parents of students who have had problems in the past, and keep a record of all contacts to make sure that students are getting equal positive attention.
