About Our People

Julie Kindelan
* Julie Kindelan, assistant principal at Westgate, has been named the Virginia Association for Elementary School Principals (VAESP) Assistant Principal of the Year for 2008.

Kindelan, who began working for Fairfax County Public Schools in 2000 as a classroom teacher at Fairhill Elementary School, is praised by principal Juanita Harris for being an advocate for children and for encouraging collaboration within the school community. “She creates an atmosphere of respect where every idea, opinion, and concern deserves to be heard,” says Harris. “Ms. Kindelan is exceptional in her ability to build relationships and establish trust with both children and adults.”

Kindelan is responsible for reviewing student data and working with instructional teams to help evaluate student instructional needs and facilitate student achievement. She has developed several reporting tools to help measure student progress. “Under Ms. Kindelan’s leadership, the complexities inherent in schoolwide, federal, state, and county assessments have been made easy to manage,” says Harris.
