FY 2009 Budget Information
The FY 2009 budget approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors increases the fund transfer to FCPS by approximately $40 million, which is less than the $63.7 million increase requested by the School Board. Public hearings have been scheduled for May 14-15 at Jackson Middle School as the School Board works to vote on a final budget on May 22. (get details)

Adult and Community Education Program Honored With Outstanding Volunteer Program Award
The Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Education (ACE) Volunteer Learning program (VLP) received Fairfax County's 2008 Volunteer Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer Program, presented at Volunteer Fairfax’s annual awards breakfast on April 24. The VLP, established in 1975, recruits and trains volunteers to tutor adults in the academic skills necessary to obtain a high school diploma or GED and to improve essential reading, writing, and math skills. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Information Meeting to Be Held May 22

Belvedere Elementary School Named Distinguished Title I School by Virginia Department of Education
Belvedere Elementary School has been named a 2008 Distinguished Title I School by the Virginia Department of Education. Belvedere is one of 118 schools statewide selected for the distinction, which is based on student achievement on state assessments during the 2006-07 school year. (get details)
Changes to 403(b) Savings Plans Start August 1
With final federal 403(b) regulations fast approaching, FCPS has thoroughly reviewed its 403(b) program. As such, some changes will take place for those employees with Ameriprise Financial Services, Primerica Financial Services, and Kaplan Financial savings plans starting August 1. (get details)

ERFC Trustee Announced
The Educational Employees’ Retirement System of Fairfax County (ERFC) Board of Trustees election to fill one trustee vacancy will not be conducted as planned for May 13 through May 15. Section V of Notice 4771 states that “if only one properly processed nomination petition is submitted, the voting instructions will be waived and the successful candidate announced.” Jeannine Maynard, school-based technology specialist at Kilmer Center, was unopposed and will serve as an ERFC trustee for three years beginning July 1.
