FCPS Support Employee Recognition Week to Be Held April 21-25

Beginning this year, FCPS will recognize all support employees by designating one week each year as FCPS Support Employee Recognition Week. This year, FCPS Support Employee Recognition Week will be held April 21-25. This week will be a systemwide, all-inclusive celebration of employees who support the educational mission of the school system.

While individual school-based and nonschool-based recognition traditions may continue, this centrally recognized week will be the main FCPS celebration of all support employees and will culminate with the annual Support Employee of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 24. Work Contact Information―Is Yours Up-To-Date?

Employees are asked to update their work contact information by logging onto UConnect and selecting My Work Contact Information. It is important that your office phone number be current; all other information, including other phone numbers, is optional. Employee contact information is maintained in the Outlook directory (from UConnect) and is visible in your profile. Each central office employee is asked to also update his or her suite or room number.

Meeting Times Restructured for Outstanding Performance Award Committee in FY 2009

Committee meetings for the Outstanding Performance Award (OPA) in FY 2009 will take place once in the fall and once in the spring. The dates and times for these meetings will be published in Supergram. Also, the third OPA committee meeting in FY 2008 (scheduled for May 2008) will not be held. The committee met in October 2007 and February 2008 and approved a total of 123 awards in the amount of $1,000 each.

An electronic election to fill one trustee position of the Educational Employees’ Retirement System of Fairfax County (ERFC) Board of Trustees will be held May 13 through May 15. Notice 4771, available on the ERFC web site at www.fcps.edu/ERFC, outlines the election process and includes a petition for candidates to use in qualifying for the election.

Each interested candidate must also submit a statement of no more than 100 words—for inclusion in election materials—as to why he or she would best serve in his or her position. Petitions and statements must be returned to the Office of Employee Performance and Development (OEPD), suite 2512, Gatehouse Administration Center I, by April 18.

FCPS is built on the efforts of the men and women who have dedicated many years of service to its success. These people are the heart and soul of our school system. In order to thank them and recognize their length of service, FCPS issues service awards on a yearly basis.

This year, the service awards Program has been improved—FCPS is offering a new group of gifts. Depending on an employee’s length of service, a crystal keepsake box, leather pencil cup with clock, acrylic photo cube, rosewood mantle clock, or money will be awarded. A decorative certificate will also be given to each recipient. Please note that the Service Awards will soon be distributed to work locations.

Certificates and awards will be given as follows:

• 10 years – certificate, crystal keepsake box.
  
  
• 15 years – certificate, leather pencil cup with clock.
  
  
• 20 years – certificate, acrylic photo cube, and $100.
  
  
• 25 years – certificate and $200.
  
  
• 30 years – certificate and $500.
  
  
• 35 years – certificate and $1,000.
  
  
• 40 years and over – certificate, rosewood mantle clock, and $1,000.

Employees will receive the cash awards in their June paychecks and are reminded that taxes will be deducted beforehand.

Historical UConnect Training Data Converted to My PLT

Historical training data from UConnect has been converted to My PLT. This includes historical data from all training completed through the UConnect system from the summer of 1998 to the spring of 2007. My PLT is the FCPS central repository for communicating and tracking professional development and training.

To view your training history that was listed in UConnect, log in to http://www.fcps.edu/plt/MyPLT/index.html and click “View My Transcript” on your home tab.

Support Services Employees’ Advisory Council (SSEAC) Election Results Announced

Congratulations to the new SSEAC representatives. They are:
