* Jim Percoco, social studies teacher at West Springfield High, has published a new book, Summers With Lincoln: Looking for the Man in the Monuments. Percoco has also written two other books related to teaching history.
* Mike Layland, instrumental music specialist at Bonnie Brae, Laurel Ridge, and Terra Centre Elementary Schools, recently served as guest conductor and clinician for the 72nd annual Nassau Music Educators Association All County Band Festival. The band included 130 outstanding fifth grade musicians from 30 schools in western Long Island, New York. The festival took place January 24 through 27 and concluded with a concert performance at the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University.
* Julian Dotson, English teacher and debate and forensics coach at West Potomac, received the 2008 National Forensic League Virginia District Coach of the Year Award. Dotson has served as the forensics tournament director for the Patriot District of the Virginia High School League and has coached his teams to three championships this school year.
