About Our People
* The International Baccalaureate (IB) has announced that Robert Harrison, International Baccalaureate Middle Years program coordinator at Glasgow, is among a select team of international educators chosen to participate in a year long effort to promote understanding of Islamic history and culture. Harrison will represent public schools in the United States as one of seven specialists in curriculum and staff development.
The team includes teacher leaders from the U.S., Canada, Qatar, Thailand, Lebanon, and Oman. “Project 70364” will develop interdisciplinary lessons for IB schools in 132 countries that serve 680,000 students in grades preK-12. As part of the project, team members will take part in a field experience this April in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

* Tish Howard, principal at Washington Mill, has been named the Kappa Delta Pi Leadership Award winner by the Nu Alpha chapter for her dedication, outstanding leadership, excellence in education, and service to Fairfax County Public Schools. Kappa Delta Pi International Society in Education is committed to recognizing excellence and mutual cooperation, support, and professional growth for educational professionals. Howard has been recognized as epitomizing these ideals. She will receive her award in April.
* Beverly Wilson, principal, and James Sykes, assistant principal, both at Pimmit Hills, recently presented a workshop at the 15th Joint National Conference on Alternatives to Expulsion, Suspension, and Dropping Out of School, January 28-31, in San Antonio. Wilson and Sykes’s presentation, “A High School That Works for Immigrants,” explored how a high school can be configured to meet the needs of an immigrant population.
