  • Provide a quiet space and time for your child to read.
  • Before reading, look at the pictures with your child. Have your child tell you what the book might be about.
  • Read to your child or have them read to you.
  • If you cannot read in English, that’s OK! You can still ask them questions in your home language about what happened in the book, who the characters are, and where the story takes place. Just get your child to think about the story.
  • It’s OK to read books in your home language!
  • After your child reads a book, have them tell you what happened, from the beginning to the end. They can tell you in your home language, too!
