Our Mission Is

  • To challenge the intellect for life-long learning and lasting results.
  • To enable each student to realize his/her educational, personal, and career goals.
  • To foster strong positive relationships through respect, responsibility, honesty, spirit, and community as exemplified in the Statesmen Code.

We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of George C. Marshall High School is to develop our collective capacity to function as a caring Professional Learning Community whose members value and celebrate our rich diversity. As an instructional staff of teachers, counselors, and administrators, we envision our school as one in which we demonstrate a school-wide commitment to helping all students achieve high levels of learning.

Our Commitments

Intervention

  • We implement a pyramid of interventions with academic instructional plans for individual students.
  • We assign students to Lunch & Learn and/or other interventions until they are proficient.
  • We follow up with parents, school counselors, and administrators for those who do not attend Lunch & Learn or use it appropriately.
  • We provide enrichment opportunities for all students.
  • We clearly define what is expected of students, provide timely feedback, and assist students in developing and reflecting on personal growth and responsibility.

Instruction

  • We collaborate in teams on Friday morning and other times to:
    • develop goals that are clear, challenging and attainable through researching, interpreting, clarifying, and organizing external standards.
    • use resources to evaluate goals and modify them to meet the requirements of the curriculum and needs of the students.
    • identify connections among disciplines and different levels of a discipline.
  • We foster supportive relationships by being accessible, treating students with respect, and by valuing their points of view.
  • We continually ask questions that reflect on our practice and seek ways to improve.
  • We support and engage in professional development to improve teaching and learning.

Assessment

  • We establish what it looks like when students meet the goal as well as how the goal will be assessed.
  • All teams regularly deliver common assessments that are stranded according to relevant standards.
  • We provide specific and timely feedback to all students.
  • We strive to have grades reflect what students know and are able to do.

Data Analysis

  • We collect, analyze, discuss, and act upon data to evaluate program, instruction, and student outcomes.
  • Teams use the resources in Marshall Testing and Assessment Center (MTAC) to facilitate their work.
  • In our curriculum teams, we examine data from common assessments to guide classroom instruction and appropriate interventions.
