Jeff McFarland: Academy Administrator
Jeff has been the Marshall High School Academy Administrator since 2003. Prior positions held include: FCPS Coordinator for Trade & Industrial Education, FCPS Executive Director for the Foundation of Applied Technical Education and Graphic Communications Teacher at Osborn High School in Manassas, VA. Jeff earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial Technology from Millersville University and Masters of Education in Administration, Supervision and Policy Making from the University of Virginia.

Aryan Bahrambeigi: IB Business Instructor
Aryan Bahrambeigi received his B.A. in Economics and M.A. in International Transactions from George Mason University. He has completed several Study Abroad programs in the areas of International Finance and Education, including: Asian Financial Markets (China, Hong Kong, Singapore); European Monetary Union (Oxford University, UK); Human Rights Education (Brazil); Education in Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia). He has also participated in four summer programs for International Educators at George Washington University, sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Washington DC. During his graduate studies he was selected by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership as a Marketing Assistant to the Virginia delegation at the Hanover Industrial Trade Fair in Germany. Mr. Bahrambeigi has been teaching in FCPS since 1999. He is currently teaching the IB Business Management classes at the Marshall Academy, and is a student advisor for FBLA and the Business Honor Society.
John Bogan: Auto Technology Instructor
John, an FCPS graduate, holds an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology. He comes to us with 19 years of trade experience and is an ASE Certified Master Technician. John taught Automotive Technology at Hayfield Secondary School for two years before coming to the Marshall Academy.
Tom Carroll: Auto Collision Services Instructor
Tom comes to the Academy with a wealth of industry experience. He worked as an Automotive Painter for eight years and as a Collision Repair Technician for twenty years. He then went on to teach Collision Repair and Refinishing in St. Mary's County for two and a half years. After that, Tom taught Automotive Collison Services at the Edison Academy for a year before coming to the Marshall Academy. Mr. Carroll is ASE certified and I-CAR trained.
Paulette Cerutti: Guidance
Mrs. Cerutti is the guidance counselor for the Marshall Academy. She provides counseling services to students in the Academy, coordinates scheduling with base school counselors, and assists students with college and career exploration activities. She is responsible for promoting the program and recruiting students. Mrs. Cerutti has a B.S. in Psychology from Rhode Island College and a M.E.D. in Student Personnel Services from Virginia Tech. She is a National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC) and holds Virginia licenses as a professional counselor (LPC) and a marriage and family therapist (LMFT). Outside of work hours, she enjoys kayaking the bay, rivers, and local streams with her husband. She relaxes in the evening while knitting and crocheting projects for family and friends. Mrs. Cerutti also volunteers at Virginia Hospital Center in the Patient Companion to the Dying program.
Ciaran Devlin: Culinary Arts Instructor
Chef Devlin trained in the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. He studied Culinary Arts and fulfilled an apprenticeship at Cathal Brugha Hotel and Restaurant School. Chef Devlin is honored as a Certified Executive Chef by the American Culinary Federation. He is also qualified as a Ships Cook and Chief Cook. His most recent position was the Executive Chef at The Tower Club in Tysons Corner for 13 years. The Tower Club is a fine dining facility for executives and their guests.
Carol Ferson: Support Team - Special Ed Teacher
Carol received endorsement in Vocational Education for Special Needs from Penn State University. She started teaching for a "Head Start" program in a junior high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She then taught Work and Family Studies for both middle and high schools in Fauquier County for 6 years. She then transferred to Fairfax County Public Schools teaching at Springfield High School and Marshall High School for a year. Carol has been with the Marshall Academy as a Support Team member since 1998. She coached JV Softball in 2001 and 2002. Since 2002 she has been one of the Skills USA advisors.
Li Fu: Chinese Instructor
Li Fu is a native Chinese speaker. She received her B.S. in Computer Science from Harbin Institute of Technology in Harbin, China in 1982. She came to the U.S. to pursue her graduate studies in 1985. She received her M.S. in Information Systems and Ph.D. in Information Technology from George Mason University in 1987 and 1995 respectively. Li has worked for the IT industries for over 10 years and has been teaching Chinese at Hope Chinese School in Fairfax for the last 8 years.
  Kim Galeano: Hospitality Management Instructor
Kim received her undergraduate degree in Hospitality Management from James Madison University. She has spent the past fifteen years working in the hospitality industry in the position of General Manager, Director of Sales, Rooms Division Manager, and assisting in Food & Beverage departments as needed. She has worked for industry leaders such as Hampton Inns, Holiday Inns, and for several Choice Hotel's properties, and attended industry-training courses with Promus Hotels, Inc.-Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, and Doubletree Hotels. Kim is also a DECA advisor.
Jim Hepler: Criminal Justice Instructor
Jim recently retired from the Fairfax County Police Department after 27 years of service. Jim began his career as a Police Cadet at which time he worked as a Patrol Officer, Shopping Center Officer, and Bicycle Patrol Officer. Jim then became a Detective for 6 years, and spent his last 6-7 years as an Instructor at the Fairfax County Police Academy. Jim has been married to his wife Barbara for almost 20 years and has 3 boys.
Vanessa Hinton: Cosmetology Instructor
Vanessa comes from the industry where she has worked for JCPenneys for the past 8 years after graduating from the Adult Education Program of Cosmetology held at Marshall High School. She taught as a substitute instructor in the Adult Education Program since 2003. Vanessa studied advanced hair cutting/styling courses and makeup artistry at the Dudley Institute in Washington , DC in 1998/1999 and performed as platform artist in a number of hair shows for JCPenneys and Dudley Institute.
Allan Jones: Network Administration Instructor
AJ received his BS in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Oswego and his Masters in Secondary Education from Canisius College in Buffalo. He also completed an overseas study program at Griffith University in Australia. He has a dual certification in Social Studies and Business Education and has taught in the public school system in Japan as an English Foreign Language teacher. In addition, he has taught Graduate Education at Canisius College and has six years in the telecommunications field as a Technical Engineer. He is currently teaching Network Administration at the Marshall Academy. AJ has successfully completed his MCSE Training Course as required for MCSE & MCSA Certification. Mr. Jones is also an FBLA advisor.
Jie Lei: Chinese Instructor
A native Chinese, Jie received her BA in German Language and Literature from Peking University in Beijing, China in 1996. She came to the U.S. to pursue her graduate studies in 2000. She received her MA in German Studies and MS in Information Studies from Florida State University in 2002 and 2004 respectively. During her graduate studies at FSU, she taught language courses to the undergraduates in both German and Chinese. Jie joined the Marshall Academy to teach Chinese in 2004 after she graduated from FSU.
Mary Ellen McCormick: Entrepreneurship Instructor
Mrs. McCormick has an MBA and BBA, Bachelors of Business Administration from George Washington University. Before joining the Academy Team, Mrs. McCormick was a Marketing Teacher at Langley High School in McLean, VA. Her previous experience includes working in the marketing departments of several national advertising agencies and co-managing a household with her husband Peter, and her three children who all attend or have attended FCPS. She is also a DECA advisor.
Michael Montie: Engineering & Physics Instructor
Mr. Montie teaches the Marshall Academy 's Engineering Physics I/II, and Engineering Systems I/II course sequences. This is his eighth year of teaching in Marshall Academy, and ninth year in Fairfax County. His B.S. in Mathematics and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering were awarded by the University of Maryland at College Park. Mr. Montie is certified to teach in three academic areas: Physics, Mathematics, and Technology Education. His experience in military service includes teaching Calculus and Differential Equations at the United States Military Academy (West Point), and service as a successful Department of Defense program manager of advanced technology programs. His experience in industry includes product development and program development of successful advanced technology system programs. Mr. Montie is the faculty advisor for the Marshall High School Student Advisory Council, and the faculty advisor for Marshall Academy’s co-curricular Aerospace Engineering Club and Technology Student Association. He is the supervising teacher for the Team America Rocketry Challenge, CanSat, and Botball Robotic competitions. He is a past winner of the Statesman Star, the Vienna Optimists' 2006 Achievement in Education award for Marshall High School, and is a current national winner of the National Association of Rocketry’s Robert L. Cannon Education Award. He has two grown children. His daughter is a certified public accountant in northern Virginia, and his son a PhD Mechanical Engineer in Charlottesville.
Diane Murphy: Administrative Assistant
Diane has been with the Academy since it first opened in 1998. She provides the moral glue holding together the pieces making up all daily operations of the Academy. Ms. Murphy's experience in FCPS and her tenure at Marshall High School make her an invaluable asset to the Academy, frequently coordinating transportation and facilities issues as they arise. Ms. Murphy manages student applications to the Academy and maintains the database of students enrolled in Academy courses.
Ed Murphy: Auto Technology Instructor
Mr. Murphy comes to the Academy having previously taught at Hayfield Secondary School for three years. Before teaching, Ed worked in the Automobile Industry for 16 years. He is an ASE Certified Master Technician.
Katie Murphy: Support Team - Special Ed Teacher
A Marshall High School alum, Katie began her career as an Academy Support Team member in 2002. She received her BA in Communication (with a focus in Public Relations) and a minor in Spanish from George Mason University and her Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia. Katie is currently licensed in the area of learning disabilities and is working on endorsements in the areas of emotional disabilities as well as intellectual disabilities. She is also currently the website curator for the Marshall Academy.
Helen Schaefer: Support Team Leader - Special Ed Teacher
Helen Schaefer is a veteran Learning Disabilities teacher, having taught in Fairfax County for more than ten years. She began her teaching career at Oak View Elementary School and transferred to Marshall in the fall of '92. Ms. Schaefer was part of Marshall's Learning Disabilities Department until March of '98 when she joined the Academy as part of the Support Team. Ms. Schaefer has a B.S. in Special Education from Longwood College. She enjoys spending her free time with her three sons.
Melissa Steinhilber: Support Team - ESOL Specialist
Melissa joined Marshall Academy's Support Team in 2004 as an ESOL Resource Teacher. A 1997 graduate of Lake Braddock Secondary School, Melissa received a B.A. in English (Journalism minor) from Clemson University and a M.A. in English (Teaching of Writing and Literature) from George Mason University. She has previously enjoyed working in newsrooms, youth camps, and classrooms.

Tammy Wiles: Career Experience Specialist
Tammy Wiles is the Career Experience Specialist at Marshall Academy. She holds an MS in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Nebraska and BA in History from the University of Northern Colorado. Most recently she was working at The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs assisting graduate students with career goals. Prior to working at GWU, Ms. Wiles was a corporate recruiter for a bank management training program.

Ms. Wiles is available to assist Marshall Academy students with a variety of career related programs including individual career counseling, resume writing and interviewing skills. She is also assists the faculty with job shadowing and internship opportunities.
