Level
1:
This
course is designed for students to investigate and prepare
for careers in the hospitality industry. During class periods
at hotel training sites, students will become familiar with
the operation of departments such as: Marketing, Sales and
Convention Services, Front Office, Accounting, Human Resources
and Food and Beverage operations to include culinary arts,
specialty restaurants, and banquet and catering services.
Instruction is conducted at the Tyson's Marriott and Sheraton
Premiere. Students concentrate on developing the basic social,
economic, marketing and technical competencies necessary for
successful employment in this industry. Program activities
include field trips, guest speakers, competitive events, and
projects based on the individual's occupational goals. Students
completing Hotel Management 1 with a "C" or above may articulate
five credits with Northern Virginia Community College in Hotel
Management or with a "B" or above may articulate six credits
with Johnson & Wales University.

2:
Hospitality
Management 2 is an advanced course enabling students to further
investigate and prepare for careers in the hotel industry.
This curriculum provides an in-depth study of sales and marketing
techniques, operations, and cost controls, as well as development
of supervisory skills. Forty percent of instruction time is
spent in area hotels.
