A message from Mrs. Susan B. Garrison, Principal

Susan Garrison, principal Lorton Station site

Lorton Station Elementary is an exciting learning environment focused on developing the whole child.

Our wonderful, professional staff is plans and implements a sound instructional program based on research and guided by assessment. We have a Positive Behavior School model in place to support discipline and character development. We use the No Put Down curriculum to develop student self-advocacy and citizenship skills. An emphasis on engaging learners using cooperative learning also helps students develop team and group skills.

The PTA is active and holds Fund Raisers, Cultural Events, and family nights. After-school activities are scheduled to provide extensions to learning. A Community Based Summer School and after school Remediation helps learners who would benefit from additional time. Peer Mediation and Girl Power develop character and personal development skills.

Lorton Station is a part of the Hayfield Pyramid and Cluster IV beginning in July 2007.

Our school motto is "We KNOW we CAN!" This statement will guide our efforts as we continue support student learning. Along with our mascot, the road runner, and our school colors of blue and white, we have created our own identity as a school.

Lorton Station Elementary School Mission

At Lorton Station Elementary, we will aspire to achieve academic excellence by using skills to problem solve and become self-sufficient life long learners. We are responsible for our attitudes and actions. We respect ourselves, each other, our differences and our environment. We will have guardianship towards others and our environment. We believe that everyone deserves a loving, safe and secure school which will pave a path for our academic, social and emotional success.

Lorton Station Elementary School Vision

We envision a school in which we will strive for academic excellence by being on time, being prepared, opening our minds to new ideas, developing world views, staying on task and always trying to do our best. We will show responsibility by being aware of our surroundings, making good choices and taking ownership of our actions. We show respect by being courteous, being honest and telling the truth and by being careful of each other’s space, feelings, property and differences. We show guardianship by thinking of others, being kind to one another, showing compassion, taking care of ourselves, our classmates, and our environment. We envision a school in which we are achieving as learners and succeeding as people, because we know we can.

Thank you to everyone for their continued support.

Susan B. Garrison

Principal
