SACC and Other Child Care

Laurel Hill Elementary does have a Fairfax County School-Age Child Care (SACC) center on site. However, the school does not oversee this program or handle enrollment. For information about registration, please contact the main SACC Registration Office at 703-449-8989. You can also find information online at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/ofc/Sacc.htm.

If your child is already enrolled in our SACC program, you can contact their staff at 703-551-5360 or SACC403@fcps.edu. Our SACC hours are 7:15 a.m. until 8:40 a.m. before school and 3:40 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. after school.

Our Laurel Hill Lions SACC Staff:
Marquis Simmons - Center Supervisor
Bridget Afram- Head Teacher
Suzette Christian- SACC Teacher

SACC usually has a waiting list each year. If you are interested in enrolling your child for the 2011-2012 school year, contact SACC Registration as soon as possible to put your name on the list.

There are other child-care centers within our boundaries that provide transportation to and from Laurel Hill. For more information, please contact our school office.

Special Programs and Services

Advanced Academic Program (AAP)

Like all elementary schools in Fairfax County, Laurel Hill Elementary offers school-based Level III Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services to students who qualify. The services are provided on a pull-out basis once a week by our Advanced Academic Resourt Teacher Jeane Fahrenthold.

Laurel Hill does not have a full-time Level IV Advanced Academic Center. Students who qualify for full-time placement can choose to attend the center at nearby Lorton Station Elementary School.

Beginning in first and second grade, all FCPS students are screened for eligibility for Advanced Academic Services using a variety of assessments. Official AAP services begin in third grade. However, all of our teachers in all grade levels use differentiated instruction within the classroom to enrich the program of studies for those students who can benefit
from the additional material.

For more information on the FCPS Advanced Academic Program, visit http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/index.shtml. For information about Laurel Hill program specifically, please contact Ms. Fahrenthold at ljfahrenthol@fcps.edu.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ESOL services are provided to students to help them develop their English proficiency and enhance their academic achievement. With specialized instruction and materials, ESOL teachers work collaboratively with other teachers to provide access to content coursework while simultaneously helping students progress in English. We have two full-time ESOL teachers here at Laurel Hill.

All students who reside in homes where a second language is spoken will be assessed for English proficiency once they enroll. This assessment, combined with teacher assessment, will determine if a student qualifies for ESOL services.

For more information, visit the main ESOL page on the FCPS website: http://www.fcps.edu/is/esol/index.shtml or contact one of our ESOL teachers, Judy Avalos at JLAvalos@fcps.edu or Nevada Sprung at nssprung@fcps.edu.
