What are the school hours?

  • Our school hours on Mondays will be 8:55 to 1:05.
  • Our school hours on Tuesdays through Fridays will be 8:55 to 3:35.

How do I register my child?

  • Additional information on Kindergarten Registration is located at http://www.fcps.edu/start/kindergarten.htm or parents can contact Gloria Leckner, School Information Assistant, at 703-551-5303.
  • It would be helpful if you would fill out the forms at home and bring them in.The forms can be found, filled in online, and printed at home, at http://www.fcps.edu/forms.htm.
    • Forms for Parents:
      • New students enrolling in FCPS.
        • "Form for registering a new student 2009-2010".
        • Please complete "Home Language Survey" , "Health Information", and Physical Form MCH-213,
        • Bring proof of residency: lease or deed, and 2 pieces of mail received at that address.
    • You will also need to fill out the 3 forms below:
      • Criminal Conviction & Juvenile Delinquency
      • Pre-K Experience [if applicable]
      • Homeless [if applicable]

Will there be a full day kindergarten program at the new school?

  • YES! Updated from the School Board meeting May 21: We will have FULL DAY Kindergarten.

How can I find out if my child will go the new school at the Laurel Hill Site?

  • A complete list of housing areas assigned to the new school is included at the end of this page. In addition, a letter has been mailed to the parents of the students assigned to the new school. Parents may also call the new school at 703-551-5300 or call their child’s current school to check the child’s school assignment.

Do I need to register my child at the new school?

  • No, you do not. All student records will be transferred to the new school during the summer. No additional information is needed from parents unless an address or phone number has recently changed.

What grade levels will be assigned to the new school?

  • The school will open with kindergarten through sixth grade. Rising sixth graders have the option to stay at their current school or attend the new school; we have enough for three 6th grade classrooms. A letter had been mailed to the homes of current fifth graders asking parents if they wish to request that option.

Will there be a SACC program at the new school?

  • Yes. A new SACC center has been approved by the County Board of Supervisors for Laurel Hill Elementary in Lorton. This program will open September 2009
  • Enrollment will be accepted by phone on Monday May 11, starting at 8AM. Openings will be filled on a first come/ first served basis.
  • If your child is already attending SACC, or if you are on the waiting list at one of the feeder schools, you will be contacted by SACC personnel.
  • If you are interested in enrolling your child, please call SACC Registration at 703-449-8989.

What are the demographics of the new school?

  • Student demographic information, including students in the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Program and Free and Reduced Meals status, is listed on the Boundary Study map.

What other programs will be included in the new school?

  • School-based special education and GT services will be offered at Laurel Hill as is the standard in all elementary schools. 

What is the School Based GT Program at Silverbrook?

  • Silverbrook Elementary School has been approved to offer local school-based Level IV GT services with phase-in schedule of grades 3 and 4 in 2009-2010 school year, grade 5 in the 2010-2011 school year, and grade 6 in the 2011-2012 school year for Silverbrook students.  Silverbrook GT Center-eligible students have the choice to remain at Lorton Station Elementary School GT Center or attend Silverbrook according to the phase-in plan.
