Fairfax County Public Schools' notification system

KIT Basic (Automatic Enrollment)

Parents of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students and employees of the school system are automatically enrolled in the KIT Basic service. FCPS central offices and schools use KIT Basic to communicate emergency, delayed opening and school closing information, attendance, and outreach messages (this includes news and announcements from your child's school). Basic contact information from the student information system and the employee databases are uploaded to the KIT system. It is important for parents to keep their child’s emergency contact information up to date.

Updating KIT Basic Contact Information

Parents may view and update their child's emergency and contact information online through weCare@School, a feature of FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) using a Parent View Account. Parents may also direct requests to update student contact information to the student information assistant at their child's school.

Employees may view and update their contact information through UConnect.

KIT Plus (Subscription Service)

Anyone interested in news, events, and updates from FCPS may subscribe to receive information on the following topics:

Adult and Community Education (ACE) classes and news
Current issues (budget, boundary studies, summer programs)
Delayed openings and school closings
FCPS job opportunities
Magnet schools and advanced academic programs
News releases and media tips
PTA, PTSA, PTO information
School Board news and updates
Special education services
Supergram (employee newsletter)

In addition to these topics, subscribers may also receive announcements from up to five schools of their choice. KIT Plus is a self-subscribing, self-updating, and self-unsubscribing service. Note: schools and offices cannot update or delete subscribers. Subscribers are responsible for updating and removing themselves from the subscription system.

To avoid duplicate messages or continuing to receive message from a school when your child moves to other schools in or out of the FCPS system, parents of FCPS students are not encouraged to subscribe to the "News and announcements" for the school where their child attends if their e-mail is already listed in the contact record for their child (see KIT Basic).

Becoming a new Keep in Touch Plus subscriber

Go to: https://signup.blackboardconnect.com/fcps/
Click the Join Now button.
Read the Terms of Use. Select both the agreement box and the consent box.
Enter the text as shown.
Click Proceed to Step 2.
Create your account by entering your information. Fields marked with the red asterisk are required. Note: If you opt to receive text messages (SMS), you may incur charges from your wireless service provider for each message received. Click Proceed to Step 3.
Select your notifications by clicking the announcements you want to receive and/or the schools you want to receive information from in your subscription.
Click Save Changes.
You will receive an e-mail asking you to confirm your subscription. Check the primary e-mail account you provided in your registration for the confirmation e-mail.
Open the message, and click the Activate FCPS Account link to complete the registration process.

Note: You will not receive subscription messages until the primary e-mail provided has been confirmed.

Updating your subscription

You may update or cancel your subscription information at any time.

Go to: https://signup.blackboardconnect.com/fcps/
In the Sign-In area, enter your e-mail address and password and click Log In.
In the My Notifications area, select Edit.
Select the announcements you want to receive and/or the schools you want to receive information from in your subscription. If you no longer want to receive selected items, deselect them by clicking the check marks to clear the boxes.
Click Save Changes.
To update your e-mail, phone numbers, address or change your password:
From the My Devices area, select Edit.
Edit your information and click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Deleting your account

Go to: https://signup.blackboardconnect.com/fcps/
In the Sign-In area, enter your e-mail address and password and click Log In.
In the My Devices area, select Edit.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Unsubscribe.
A pop-up box will appear, asking if you are sure you want to unsubscribe; click OK.

Deleting your Keep in Touch Plus account will stop all subscription messages, but if you have a child enrolled in an FCPS school or if you are an employee of FCPS, you will occasionally receive messages and/or and phone calls. Please be aware that it can take 24 hours for your account to be deleted.
