Title I Schools

Instructional Models

Although schools become eligible for Title I funds based on the level of poverty, students are served based on academic need.

  • 32 Schools implement a Schoolwide Instructional Model
  • 2 Schools implement a Targeted Assistance Instructional Model
  • 34 Total schools receive Title I grant funds

In FCPS, Title I funding serves the neediest elementary schools. In 2011-2012, thirty-four schools who receive Title I funds and schools with 44 percent or greater poverty are implementing Schoolwide instructional programs. (To operate as a Schoolwide program, a school must have at least 40 percent poverty). Schoolwide schools use Title I funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school with a focus on serving the lowest achieving students. Selected schools with less than 40 percent poverty implement a Targeted Assistance model. In Targeted Assistance schools, Title I teachers work with students identified by teachers and screening measures as needing additional academic assistance in reading and/or mathematics.

As of December 2010, the total enrollment in FCPS schools receiving Title I funds is 19,701 students.
